Community, Conservation, Educational and Development Projects
All of the organisations mentioned on this site rely on the goodwill of their volunteers and the public.

Some relied heavily on funding from the Lottery Board, but in the last two years very few organisations have received any!

Do we know how much work goes on behind the scenes to ensure the strength and stability of our community?

There are countless support organisations and charities in the Knysna and surrounding areas of the Garden Route. Helping with economic, health, educational, social and spiritual upliftment. These NGO's and NPO's are often supported by committed volunteers, professional staff and invaluable donors. But many are without a voice!

As well as in Knysna, these organisations are running in the areas of George, Wilderness, Sedgefield, Rheenendal, Hornlee, Smutsville, Sizamele, White Location and Concordia, Khayalethu, Nekkies, Harkerville and Plettenberg Bay.  Map

Helping Hands is committed to helping all these dedicated people in South Africa who want to tell the world of what they do. This website will hopefully be a start.

Via Globe-Pals we are enabling Schools to link around the world. The first schools in the scheme include the Chris Nissen Primary School and Thembelitsha Primary School, which are well underway.
Helping Hands is in need of international volunteers. If you would like to get involved in any of the organisations on our website and indirectly help those in the communities that they serve in South Africa, we would love for you to come on board.  You can be involved as much or as little as you want.  The kind of assistance needed varies but could be, but not limited to, any of the following:

* representing any of our listed charities at a function or event
* being part of a team that organises a fund raising event
* assisting with administration
* being a contact person in your area to provide information
* helping to recruite short, medium and long term volunteers
* be available to help with general activities from time to time

If you would like to sign up to be a part of our volunteer's team, please click here and we will put you in touch with any of the organisations, otherwise you can reach them via contact details on their page.  Perhaps you know a friend who would like to become involved, please let them know.
